The government has decided to abolish homeopathy act No.07 of 1970 that is implemented for homeopathy system of medicine and introduce a new act.
The aim of the new act is to inaugurate a homeopathy medical college with the approval of the UGC, forming a homeopathy medical council, register homeopathy institutions and practitioners.
New regulations would be introduced through this act regarding homeopathy research, development, production and import of homeopathic drugs.
Eliyanthe White, the personal physician of President Mahinda Rajapakse, who was at the center of controversy for alleged administration of banned steroids to Sri Lankan sportsmen and women too is said to be a homeopathy practitioner. Recently, he had obtained a certificate from a homeopathy institute. However, he has not been registered at Sri Lanka Medical Council.
